Privacy Policy

What Nigel knows about you.

Your calendar, your clients and your rates are your business. This page says what we collect, why, where it lives and how to get rid of it. We don't sell any of it.

01Who we are

Nigel is made by These Guys Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, number 14968580. Our registered office is 53c Waldram Park Road, London SE23 2PW.

In data protection terms we are the controller of the personal data described here, which means we decide how it is used and we are responsible for it.

Questions about privacy, or anything on this page, go to [email protected].

02What we collect

Your account

If you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile photo. If you sign in with an emailed link: your email address.

Your Google Calendar

Only if you connect it. Nigel then reads the events in your Google Calendar so they can sit alongside your own work. We fetch them each time you look and don't keep a copy. If you also turn on two-way sync, Nigel adds, changes and removes the events it created in your Google Calendar. It never touches events it didn't make. To do this we hold the access keys Google gives us, encrypted.

What you put into Nigel

Tasks, projects, client names, hourly and day rates, billing entries, notes, labels, templates and your settings. That includes any personal details about other people you choose to type in, such as a client's name.

Feedback

If you send feedback from the app, we keep what you wrote with your email address, so we can read it and reply.

When you ask us to email you the link

The email address you type into the form on our website. We use it once, to send you the link, and don't add it to any mailing list.

Technical information

Like any website, our servers record basic details of each request, such as your IP address, browser and the time. If something breaks, an error report may include the same details so we can fix it.

Cookies

A small number, explained in section 07. The advertising one only runs if you say yes.

03Why we use it

  • To run Nigel for you. Signing you in, showing your calendar, storing your work and adding up the hours and money. The legal basis is our contract with you.
  • To keep Nigel safe and working. Spotting abuse, fixing errors and keeping backups. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, reliable service.
  • To read and answer your feedback. Legitimate interest in making Nigel better.
  • To send you emails you asked for. Sign-in links, the link from our website, and important notices about your account or these terms. Contract, or legitimate interest for the website link.
  • To see whether our ads work. The Meta Pixel on our website, only if you accept it. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We don't use your data to train AI models, and we don't sell it or share it for anyone else's advertising.

04Google user data

When you sign in with Google, Nigel asks only for your name, email address and profile photo. Calendar access is only requested if you connect your calendar: permission to read it, and, if you turn on two-way sync, permission to change events, which Nigel only uses to manage the events it created.

Nigel's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In plain terms: Google data is used only to show you your calendar and keep it in step with Nigel. It is not used for advertising, not sold, not used to train AI models, and not read by people unless you ask us to help with a problem, it is needed for security, or the law requires it.

You can remove Nigel's access at any time from your Google account permissions.

05Where it's stored

We use a few trusted companies to run Nigel. They handle your data on our instructions and under contracts that require them to protect it.

CompanyWhat forWhere
RailwayRuns the Nigel app and its database, where your account and work are storedEU (Amsterdam)

Where data leaves the UK, it goes to countries the UK treats as adequate, or is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Each of these companies publishes data processing terms that include them.

06Who else sees it

Only the companies in section 05, and only what each needs to do its job. We would also share data if the law required it, or to protect people from harm. If Nigel were ever sold or merged, your data would move with it under this policy, and we would tell you first.

07Cookies and the Meta Pixel

Cookies are small files a website keeps in your browser. Nigel uses as few as it can.

NameWhere and whyHow long
connect.sidThe Nigel app. Keeps you signed in. Essential, so it doesn't ask.30 days
nigel_consentThis website and the Nigel app. Remembers whether you said yes or no to the Pixel, so we don't keep asking and the app can respect the same choice. Essential, so it doesn't ask.12 months
_fbp, _fbcThis website, only if you accept. Set by the Meta Pixel so Meta can tell us whether people who saw our ads visited, asked for the link or signed up.3 months

The Meta Pixel is a small piece of code from Meta. If you accept it, it tells Meta which pages you visited and whether you asked for the link, along with details about your browser and device. If you're signed in to Facebook or Instagram in the same browser, Meta may connect this to your account. Meta is jointly responsible with us for collecting this data, and its own use of it is covered by Meta's Privacy Policy.

If you decline, the Pixel never loads. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

If you accepted on this website and then sign up, the Nigel app tells Meta once that a new account was created, from your browser and from our server, so we can tell which ads lead to sign-ups. If you declined, it doesn't. Check: true once META_PIXEL_ID and META_CAPI_TOKEN are set on Railway.

08How long we keep it

  • Your account and work: for as long as your account is open.
  • After you delete your account: removed from the live database straight away, and from backups within 30 days as they roll over. Check: Railway still holds one old manual backup from September. Delete it once you're happy with the nightly ones, or it keeps old data indefinitely.
  • Sign-in links: each one works once and expires after 15 minutes. We only ever store a scrambled version of it.
  • The email address from our website form: not stored by us. Resend keeps a record of the email it sent for a limited time, under its own retention rules.
  • Server logs and error reports: up to 90 days.

09Deleting your account

In Nigel, go to Settings, Data and account, Delete account. It deletes your account and everything in it straight away, removes Nigel's access to your Google account, cancels any subscription, and emails you to confirm.

If you can't get into your account, email [email protected] from the address you sign in with and we'll do it for you within 30 days.

If you'd like a copy first, use Settings, Data, Export in Nigel before you go.

Deleting your Nigel account doesn't touch your Google account or the events in it, apart from removing our access. Events Nigel added to your Google Calendar stay there unless you delete them.

10Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete it
  • send it to you, or to someone else, in a format a computer can read
  • stop or limit how we use it, or object to it
  • withdraw your consent, where we rely on it, at any time

Write to [email protected]. We'll reply within a month. It's free.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.

11Keeping it safe

Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Google access keys are encrypted in the database, sign-in links are stored scrambled, and each person can only ever see their own data. No system is perfect, but if something went wrong that put your data at risk, we'd tell you and the ICO as the law requires.

12Children

Nigel is a work tool for adults. It isn't meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.

13Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If the change matters, we'll email you before it takes effect.
